I think I've sorted a switch problem that I've had for weeks (I'm also working on other types of problems in my 40-odd device radio stack ....).

For example: I have six rectangular, illuminated push button switches at the top of the stack for master switching of COM, NAV, DME, ADF, TXP and AP. Three weeks ago four of them worked, but at a low level of reliability. Two weeks ago five of them were working - three of the old ones and two new ones. A week ago six were working - then maybe three - or two. The system seemed unreliable.

They each had different custom offsets (0x66C4 - 0x66CA). I tried set values of 'if($=1,0,1)' and '1' and other values with intermittent success. I came across https://www.mobiflight.com/forum/topic/279.html and gave it a try. It worked most reliably.

My devices were named, for example, 'ADF_master_switch' and the input buttons were also identically named. I gave them much shorter names such as 'ADF_sw'. I hope this helps someone.

- it's working with encoders too!

I've had hours of disappointment with autopilot encoder controls. Now I've renamed the device - and related input device on the configuration side - from, say, 'AP_HDG_encoder' to 'HDG_enc' the system has been working as desired.

Phew.

Hello Karla and all,

It looks like we have the same problem. I am busy for a few weeks setting up a MCP and it worked all fine until I added the last 8 input devices (switches) in Mobiflight.
I am using all connections of the Arduino. 5 connections for the 4 max7219, 32 for MCP switches and the remainder for leds via uln8203 ic.

Suddenly some switches and/or encoders that worked fine stopped working. I always restart mobiflight after adding a new entry or even restart the Arduino if restarting mobiflight does not help. I had to delete the last added entries to get it to work again. I found your threat in this forum and started to rename several input device items to shorter names without spaces. Thereafter it started to work again but after adding a new input device another button stopped working. Each time a changed an Input device name to a shorter name and most of the time the switch or encoder started to operate again.

I still don’t know what the exact problem is with the names of the devices. Is it the length or the spaces in the names or is the problem somewhere else?

I don’t see more people on this forum with the same problem.

Regards

Arno
